Starter Solenoid?

i was looking through the engine bay pic thread and realized that i have a fender mounted starter solenoid like old GM's use and NOBODY else does, any idea why? i bought the car with it on it. possibly the solenoid ON the starter went out and someone used that one?

Wow, I finally got to use that one... I'd like to see how it's mounted and wired if you don't mind... Does any know of any reason why this setup might be beneficial? Would less heat help with the longevity of the solenoid? (Not like it's that bad to begin with but still...)

I have never seen a starter solenoid mounted on a fender. I have seen many starter relays mounted on the fenders, especially domestic models.

That is a Ford starter relay, and by the way it seems to be wired, it is not for you're starter circuit.

one goes to positive battery cable, one goes to ground, and one goes down somewhere in the starter area, my car always has been a little hard to start and when it is i can kinda hear the starter whine or spin, so :dunno:
