I had a friend helicoil the exhaust threads on my head, when i got it home i noticed most of them were crooked, so i test fitted my turbo manifold to see if it fitted and it didn't. i then proceeded to hammer some of the studs so that i could get the damn studs to go thru the holes; i got it close but it still won't fit on

should i keep beating the studs to fit? i'm worried that (since the crooked studs are only straight at the one end) when i go to tighten the whole stud it might go into total ghey fag mode central 2007

HELP A NOOB!!

(here's a leet picture to better help illustrate the situation. notice my 1337 mspaint skills)

Man that don't look good. I think if you could get the manifold to even go on when you tighten it dowm you're going to put the studs out because their not straight. If you had a aftermarket set of headers you might get away with opening up the holes on it to get it to fit. I guess just try what you can at this point, can't no more f*&$ it up any more. You don't want to hammer on a head anywere

Wow, that sucks. You need a new head. You beat on the studs, you'll never get a bolt on them. You'll probably crack the head as well, and it will never seal. What year is the motor?

not sure what year the motor is, this car is so mixed up.

the chassis is an 89 though

i feel like a uber idiot, but if the helicoils were crooked was there anything i could've done anyway? someone told me to recoil them but is that possible?

Just get a new head and you dont have to worry anymore.

Actually, you may still have to worry at some point, because exhaust studs stripping are typical on 7m's.

If you get your head rebuilt (if possible) or replace it with another head (more likely) and put in helicoils from the get-go then you won't have to worry.

oh...hammering...not good.

I say If your drawing is accurate your head is probably screwed. Get a new head from somewhere and a stud kit from driftmotion.

Nah. Just a friend trying to help out another friend probably. Shit happens. If I was the friend I would at lease try to help out with the cost.

cant you use a timesert that converts the size to smaller?

That would really depend on how crooked the holes are. If they're as bad as his pic., there might not be enough metal left to tap a hole that big. Might be able to fill them and start over.

Might be I have an extra head off a 90 turbo laying around the shop that I'd be willing to sell. Cams and all....
