I suggest pulling the 7m and the tranny together, not sure if your a turbo but the r154 is not a fun job to remove/install alone.
I'm willing to bet pulling the motor and the transmission is A LOT more work then just removing the transmisssion by itself. A clutch was the 1st semi-complicated job I ever did, it wasn't all that hard at all.

i pull my motor to change my oil, so i'm not exactly sure what you're talking about, colin. haha. :)

that being said, i browsed this thread quickly, and didn't see any mention of rear main seal leaking oil onto the clutch. it's a possibility, but then again, that might show up on the ground where you park.

I know that the rear main seal leaks slightly.(Dosen't leak onto the ground.) So it might be a posability. I will find out this week.

I have done it and I agree. Pulling just the transmission is easier. Pulling just the engine is NOT!

If you have to pull the engine just pull them both. If all you need to work on is the tranny, only drop the tranny.

Replaced the clutch today. Looks like CKAnderson and I were right, the pressure plate failed and smoked the hell out of the clutch. Everything feels pretty good. Just had the flywheel and got it resurfaced.(A little heat marks were all that was there, no cracks.) While I was in there I went ahead and replaced the starter. All in all it wasn't that bad because I had access to a lift. The worst parts were the two topmost bolts and bench-pressing the tranny outa there.
