well im tired of my auto tranny...ive been looking into swapping to a r154 but funds are kinda short so i might settle for a w58(not saying thats a bad thing)...i found one at the junkyard for 300$...so i have some quetions for those who run the w58 tranny(and yes i SEARCHED but i never found a clear answer

1)whats the max hp i can push the w58 tranny of course with a good clutch.

2)can i use the same differential from my auto?..i know the driveshafts out of the question because its shorter.

3)what else do i need for the swap?(ecu,override neutral switch,reverse lights..etc...

im looking for 350-400 hp safely,or just wait for the r154?

I'll bet you could find one cheaper through a member here. I'd look around before buying the junkyard one. Lots of supra resources in Houston.

The diffs are same on both auto and 5 speed. I believe you can use the same driveshaft with a W58 but not with an R154.

As for as your other questions, there's been some fairly recent threads about this. Search the technical forum and you'll find your answers...and then some.

I'm running a W58 on the turbo. It can handle 15psi easily on a new oem clutch (Or close to 15psi because i somtimes hit fuel cut). but the W58 isn't bad at all.

I also was looking at an R154 at a junkyard and they want 400 for it. I said eff it and kept the W58. I can find a parts car with an engine and tranny for $600 in my area. So i'm just waiting patiently for one to show up now.

Well i got a w58 setup for 200$..driveshaft,tranny,clutch slave,clutch resevior,lines,brake pedal....now my question is...

1) do i need the manual ecu...or somehow override the neutral safety switch...

2)what about the sensor or switch on the clutch pedal do i need it and how would i wire the auto ecu to it if i do need it...

The W58 for 300.00 to me would be top dollar. I have seen them go for as little as 125.00, I would suggest if you are patient getting a broken supra with a r154. I paid 500.00 for my '88 turbo with a r154. I sold all the parts I didn't need, and have around 1200.00 + parts in which id o need. I also went and bought a r154 for 425.00, just sold it though because the 1jz I ordered for my swap has one.

When I did my swap I put the 2 brake pedals side by side. Other than the Auto having the wider pedal pad there was no difference in the length or bend of the arm, your fine there.

On the 2 switches, you can use the lower one for your neutral start wires extended from the original neutral start switch on the Auto Tranny. It is up to you if you have cruise and or do not wish for the car to start w/o the clutch engaged.

thanks i forgot you posted that for me...ok that clears it for me..one more dumb question.. when i push that clutch pedal foward it stays forward, doesnt retract,is it supposed to do that and the presure from the master cylinder pushes it back or i got a messed up pedal?

Let us know how it goes, once it's done that pdeal should be coming back. Also you're going to need the flywheel, I didn't see it in the list of parts you got. Sounds like you may have one but I'm just telling you.
