setting the distributor

well i just did my friends headgasket, it starts but just kinda sounds like its missing, one of my other friends pulled the distuibutor out andf i was just wondering how you set the distributor to put it back in, i know u have to do something with the 2 marks, the one on the gear and the one on the actaull distributor, but not sure what.

set engine to #1 to tdc set distributor to #1 insert turn it a little off #1 because it will turn some when putting it in.

Turn a little to the left not right before you put it in.

You have to make sure all the timing marks are lined up. You can set #1 at tdc on the exhaust stroke, and the timing will be out.

Also a good idea to confirm the damper mark is correct at TDC.
