School Advice

Hey, I'm about to finish my first semester of college for E-Commerce. The opportunity to sign up for Co-op is due this week. If I go with Co-op I get paid but I will be in school for an extra 6-12 months.

Anyone have any experiences good or bad? I don't want to waste 6 months being a coffee bitch...

Coop is well worth it - we pull coop students in here for 6 month terms, gives them 6 months of real world experience, and we've been known to offer them full time positions after their coop is done.

FYI, I work at a software house, we do everything - feasibility, design, planning, implementation, QA, deployment, and support.

Do it man. You can think of it this way....You'll be 1 year behind in your education, but 1 year AHEAD in your career. That's what my advisor told me back in freshman year.

even being a "coffee bitch" for 6 mos, that experience will deff help in getting a job, and like others stated if you make a good impression you can get a job w/ that company instead of having to look for one. 6 months isn't THAT long. I'm basically wasting 2 years in school, but I'd kick myself in the ass if I didn't take the chance.

well put it this way, u get into co-op with a company and do good, u might as well have put in a application and have been hired. cause ur in the job circle now.

OK... but with some experience under his belt in the "real world" or however you want to phrase it, he could get probably get more job offers than just out of school w/ no experience.

What the heck does he have to lose? A (pretty much) guaranteed job/money? Again, 6 months isn't long at all. Was there any talk about possible student loan repayments? Not sure if the comp. businesses do that as much as healthcare.
