rust in spare tire well.

I have minor rust in my spare tire well. Its thru in a few places. The thing I would like to know is can I cut the whole spare well out, and make it a "flat trunk"? Would I be able to use my factory gas tank? If not then ill fix the rust. I didn't know if seeing as the tank sits up against the underside of the spare tire well, if it was even possible. I don't wanna go fuel cell though.

I cut and welded the tire well flat so I could relocate my battery down there. The fuel tank wont get in the way.

Just sand it down and fiberglass it. Then fix the leaks.

That's where my battery is going as well. You have no issues with your gas tank moving around? I was concerned cuz I believe that supports the gas tank.

Im looking for a permanent fix. Fiberglass dosent stop the cancer, it just hides it.

The tank will not move around. There are two straps w/ bolts holding it up.

That 'nipple' and 'lump' in the tire well can be cut and welded flat without any negative outcomes. Unless you actually use the spare wheel..

But if you do decide to cut and weld be sure to remove your fuel tank.

That would b a must. Gas+spark=big problem lol.

I just didn't know if the straps alone would hold it there. Thanks a lot. That's a huge help.
