Here I go. My MKIII has a new HG torqued down to 75ft.lbs. I did the work myself using a stock gasket as recommended by my man Shaeff.
Who btw gave me some great info. Base timing set properly car ran like a jem for about a week with a little extra fuel consumption.

Checked 4 vaccum leaks and found 2 and took care of them. Right now the car is making a bunch on whishing noises, boosting to about 8psi according to guage something it never did b 4, and its getting so hot that the back of the turbo and the exhaust mani r glowing red after a little bit of driving.

I have checked and rechecked for leaks 'cause b 4 this car was running even worse until Shaef helped a cat out. I found a 3 1/2 slit under the intake hose going to the 3000 pipe. Off to the yard I went. Got some Volvo hard pipe and pretty much fabricated a new intake using the hard pipe and Toyota hose as couplers. She ran much better.

However I still hear whistling noises, experiencing boost creep, turbo is heating up way to fast and exhaust mani. Seems like the turbo wants to boost all the time and I can only feel the power sporadicly at
best, once warm can't feel any power and she's still a guzzlin' like a damm Hummer. Oh yeah I also have an exhaust leak at the bottom or the turbo elbow flange. 2 out of three nuts r on the flange. Car is absolutely stock except for a Bosch BOV.

I have done searches on exhaust leaks, PM Shaeff to the point of being a PITA and now I'm posting a thread. If I can't get this right Wifey is gonna try to make me get rid of it and I say "never that!" Any insight on these vexing problems would b greatly appreciated.

Cam timing and or ignition timing WAY OFF.

Thanx Bro. I'm still trying to source a timing light now and check my ignition timing. When I did the HG I had the CS pulley mark at 0 and both cams exactly on their marks. Car runs fine at idle at about 650rpm and starts O.K. no misfires or hard starting for the most part. I can even rev the motor hard but only in PARK.:aigo:

Sourced a timing light, come to find out the ignition timing wasn't WAY OFF it was actually OFF THE CHARTS IN ANOTHER DAMM GALAXY. I followed the ingnition timing reset as per the TSRM but now the timing mark will only go to about 5 degrees BTDC. Going to do a search on timing issues to make sure what I want to is the proper thing 2 do. Its people like u, Shaeff and the other cats on this forum that make the MKIII world go round. Thanx again Bro!

if you can't get any more adjustment out of it, you installed the CPS improperly. try this:

also, remember when you set the Ignition timing, that you must have t1 and e1 jumpered in the diagnostic block. :)

Yes yes yall and u don't stop! I did what I wanted to do with was:
Readjust the cam timing. When I pulled the cover I was off the mark by one tooth. So I advanced the pulleys one tooth because I didn't realize that once u release the tensioner it pulls the cams back one tooth.
I then set the CS pulley at 0 degees.
Then pulled the CPS out and reinserted it in with the adjustment screw all the way down position.
Started car and my CS pulley mark was about 2.5" from O degree mark about a 2" improvement from original indication.
Moved CPS sensor until marks on CS pulley were between 10 and 15 degrees. Removed jumper wire from diagnostic and rechecked ingnition timing which was now at about 13 lucky degrees BTDC. Now that's whut's f%#@$! up!.
Car runs like it's damm well supposed to, like a vexed sports car.
No way I could have done it without SM support from u all. Aint got nuttin but luv 4 ya!:icon_bigg
After 5 months of repairing I can finally think about mods.BTW friends don't let friends drive stock.:biglaugh:

Yeah it's mine. If you look at the top of the page, it will flash up there every now and then, but only for another day or two. Soup just won ride of the month so mine will be coming off. It's two shades lighter than the stock blue metallic. Sorry not really looking to trade although I haven't seen your car yet. I'm just fond of mine......................lol
