hey guys, ive been w58 all my life, so i've never really learned about auto trannies. read up on howstuffworks about them, googled them and searched here.

what exactly does a stall converter do for launches? i know itll knock some time off if you step up to a 3k rpm, but how and why does it do this and minimize boost lag?

Think of slipping the clutch to get the motor into it's powerband more before dropping it.

With an Auto it's even better as it allows you to load the motor and Turbo's LOVE load.

If you just stab and go it'll flash up almost to the rated stall speed but if you hold the brake depending on how powerful the motor is it'll exceed the rated, you need a well sorted chassis and tires to take full advantage of it.

Downside is normal driving it slips and makes roadrace type driving "interesting" ;)
