I have a little bit of play in the steering wheel. Not much but it is very apparent at speed - makes me constantly adjust the steering wheel.

I think it comes from the rack (after changing the different other parts of the steering column).

It is driving me nuts.

I've been told that the rack (44250-14181) has been discontinued from Toyota. So I'm looking at remanufactured and refurbished units on ebay.

What is the difference between a remanufactured and a refurbished? (none?)

When looking at the prices there are quite a large difference between the cheapest and the most expensive ones. Some explain what has been done others don't.

Has anyone bought one on ebay? Any comments? Which one to choose? Which one to avoid?

Most the rebuilt units (at least the cheaper ones) have just new seals and won't be as tight and firm feeling as a new unit would have been. I'm not sure if any of the components are still available, but if you want to clean up actual slop in the rack, you may need to look into a new "Valve" and "Rack" as individual components and go through the rack yourself.
