Sure its the trans. whining, and not the pinion bearing? If it is the trans., just wait for a good used one and swap it out. You have to have a press and a bearing splitter to take it apart.

Honestly, I have no knowledge as to how I would check that... :dunno:

All I know is when I get on the gas more than 10% or so, the car has a whine coming from somewhere below the console on up to the engine bay. The car was almost out of trans oil when i got it, so I figure its been worn down in some way or another...

I've got a lot to learn about my transmission. :)

We met up today... I'd say it's more of a groan. The first thing that came to my mind when we went for a drive was the throwout bearing... but I'm no expert when it comes to clutches and trannies. The noise is present whenever there is ANY load on the tranny. When parked I was diggin around under the hood (checking the master and slave and whenever suprarx7nut would push the clutch pedal you could hear a steady light popping as the fork moved.

I hope this added info will help those of you who are more "in the know" than I help diagnose this.

Sorry, meant to get in here yesterday. If you push the clutch pedal down, does the noise go away? If so, the throwout bearing is the likely culprit. The light popping could be from dirt(like dust from the clutch) built up between the fork and the ball it pivots on, or on the fingers of the p.p. Maybe pull the inspection cover and the boot for the fork, and try to blow it out with compressed air(watch out for dust from the clutch blowing in your face though. Wear safety goggles and a dust mask if you can) to get some of the build up out. The master cylinder could be making the popping noise as well when the pedal is pushed down. Hope this helps...

Ya, my bets is on the throw out. Got a second opinion and it was that. I'll have a shop give me a for sure diagnosis, but thanks for the opinions guys.

I'm not too worried about the little popping noise.
