The insurance on my Supra runs out on Oct.11, Im parking it for the winter from then on. Right now its sitting at 237 000km's with no major engine work done, its been very well maintained and still running great, valve stem seals are getting worn, smokes a little bit if revved until its warm but other than that it purrs.

Theres no records of the timing belt or head gasket being done and since I plan on keeping this car a long time I figure I should treat it well and do some preventative maintenance.

Here is what I want to replace:

-timing belt
-valve stem seals
-water pump
-gaskets + seals

any recommendations on brands? I know there's some pretty crappy replacement parts out there. What else should I pay attention to? What exact parts/seals/gaskets should I replace?

Recently replaced:

Spark Plugs (225 000km)
Valve Cover Gaskets (220 000km)
Radiator( 231 000km) coolant system has been flushed twice a year for the past 10-12 years.

I want to do a compression and leak down to see where my compression is at before taking the head off, I dont really want to do a head gasket on it but i know its best to do it now.

There's a couple ways to change the valve seals without removing the head, if you search around a bit. As for brands, Felpro has good parts, at a reasonable price. Iiirc, all their valve seals are made out of viton now, as well. Edit: I have seen a thread or two with fitment issues on cam seals, so you might get those from the dealer, if you can.

If you do pull the head, be sure to have it checked, and machined as necessary. Also, be sure to remove the bolts in the opposite sequence as tightening them. Less chance of warping it that way, as opposed to going from end to end, removing each bolt while the others remained torqued.

Go ahead and change the head gasket. Take the head to a machine shop and have it rebuilt, and machined as necessary. Make sure label your cam caps so you don't get em mixed up. Same with main caps(If you do a bottom end rebuild)

There are many things you can do. Me, i would rebuild everything. New set of rings, bearings, seals, the works. But some don't have time or money for it. You can look in my sig and check out the rebuild i did. Should help a little bit. :]

They're labeled from the factory... stamped on the top of each in fact.

While you're at it check all your valve clearances and adjust as necessary.
