I know some of you warned against even considering used tires, but it's what my budget can take right now. Anyway, I bought a pair of tires for the rear from a used tire place - very clean and friendly. I paid a grand total of $64 for the mounted 245-45ZR-17's and was about to leave when I mentioned something about balancing.

"Balancing? Rear wheels don't need to be balanced!"

Since I didn't pay much for mounted tires with good tread I didn't put up much of a fight, but that sounds like bullshat to me. Car isn't vibrating, and overall things have improved, but shouldn't they really be balanced? Tell me this guy's way off base and I'll have it done tomorrow.

It's hard to be picky when it comes to buying used tires. Finding the perfect size with good tread is hard work. I think I stopped by 5 places and bought fronts from one place and rears from another. Once I get my growing list of fixes out of the way, I'll be getting exactly what I want all shiney and new!

did you go thru the guy i suggested?

i cant believe he would say that. he has always balanced ours before sending out.

ninja edit- now some people on new tires just line up the dot on the tire w/ the valve stem and let it go. that is about as close to balanced as you can get w/o actually balancing them. but on a used tire youd have to balance them.

He never had much of anything - said the 17" tires came and went pretty fast. He was funny though. He asked me if I thought the airlines were involved in a scam with the chemical industry and disposing of hazardous materials in jet fuel, which is what causes contrails. LMAO! I'll keep him in mind for next time, though.

This place was in the Iroquois area. I was planning on recommending them back to you, because it was unbelievably clean. That is until this whole balancing thing came up.
