I have been doing my research and also searched the threads but haven't found answers to my questions.

I have a 1986.5 toyota supra with a 7mge engine and W58 5 speed transmission with a centerforce clutch. I eventually want to go with a 1jz turbo with the r154 turbo transmission. However, I am having immediate problems with my w58 transmission. Missing 4th gear, loud noises etc. My mechanic said i need a new transmission.

I dont want to put money into this W58 transmission and want to swap it out for a r154 this week. Was reading somewhere the slave cylinders are different or something.

What do I need to make this swap work? 7mge to r154 manual trans?

Thanks for your help!

R-154 and it's bell housing, slave cylinder, the lower clutch lines, r-154 flywheel, pressure plate, and clutch, front half of the drive shaft. I'm not sure if the cross member is different or not. Shifters are the same.

Thank you for your help! Didn't want to spend the money before I had the answer.

and for those searching, it applies to any M seires engine. IE. 2m,4m,5m,6m,7m motor's.

also, head's pistons rods and crank swap as far as i know.
and as far as i can find, there are only 2m, 6m ,7m cranks. im talking about the crank stampings.
6m cranks are fround in 6m's (jdm only) and earily 7m's every where.

i have found 2m crank's in usdm 5m's.

if you plan on going 1jz, take note that the bellhousings are different for jz series and M series. so get you r154+driveshaft and a 1jz bellhousing

I found a guy that is selling me a rebuilt r154, driveshaft, lsd rear end and everything i need. Supposed to be delivered Tuesday. Another question, Most of the JDM 1JZ's come with the auto transmission. Would the auto bellhousing work that would come with the engine, or do I need to purchase a bellhousing that would go from the 1jz to the R154? I know they are around $350.

Thank you

The bellhousing on the auto doesn't have a clutch fork on it, so you'll still need to get a manual bellhousing. I'm just basing that off of my old a340, but I'm quite sure it's the same on the jz auto, as there'd be no reason/space to have the clutch fork on the auto.

Yes, you need a 1jz->R154 bellhousing.

The bellhousing of the R154?

So does it bolt on like that on the 7MGE engine?
I have issues with the trans of my engine, vibrates and makes too much noice.... I was going to swap it with a fully rebuild 7mgte with aftermarket parts for racing but that is in the works... I wanted to get a GM transmission but if the R154 goes easily on the 7MGE then I'l stick with the manual..

Thanks for all the answers! The rebuilt r154 with the turbo driveshaft and lsd rear end were installed. The car drives so much better with different gearing and the R154. 100% difference

Hey I am thinking of doing the same exact thing as you so if you wouldnt mind telling me the specifics of what I need to do or change to make the R154 transmission fit the 7MGE engine it would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks!

I will be getting a turbo engine but my transmission is goin bad so figured I may a well prepare do the turbo engine an go with the r154 tranny. I am just hearing so many different things about it. I want to get all the specifics down to every part I need to make this all work. So a list of all. A specific list of all the parts is what I need.
