Questions about bypass oil filters

So i was looking into the idea of going with a bypass oil filter for some extra protection. Currently my lubrication system is stock with the stock filter head and cooler. I had a few questions. First off, i was thinking about routing my system like this:

Remove the oil cooler relief piston so the oil cooler line recieves full oil pressure at all times
Connect the bypass filter housing outlet line of the engine oil filter head
Connect the outlet of the bypass filter to the inlet of the stock oil cooler, then from the oil cooler to the pan.

I figured with this setup i could use existing line routing to connect everything, and still keep some oil flow through the cooler(limited because of the restriction in the bypass filter head). Only question I have is would this over cool the oil? Possibly under cool? Also, another problem with this setup is the oil cooler line from the filter head flows unfiltered oil. In other words, the line out of the filter head provides oil from before it goes through the normal full flow oil filter. Would this pose a problem sending unfiltered oil to the bypass filter?

Another setup i considered was using the filter head only for the bypass unit as stated above, and then using a full flow oil cooler setup with a thermostat, but again the problem comes in with sending unfiltered oil to the bypass filter.

Another question i have is, do i have to use a special bypass kit such as from amsoiL? I have seen that with their kit they provide the restrictor orifice to limit flow through the bypass filter. Can i use a standard oil filter adapter and use my own restriction? Where could i get something like this?

Thanks for any tips, i have been reading some online articles on setting up a bypass filter circuit, but they are not too in depth, and im new with the whole thing.

I ran a Motor Guard for years as I prefer toilet paper for its depth, cheapness, and availability. Can be messy to change though.

You can use a sandwich adapter and either run it across the adapter or dump the return into someplace like the valve cover or drill and tap one of the third cylinder cover plugs. If you don't like sandwich adapters you can take the feed from several places on the block. If plumbing doesn't appeal to you there's always the Trasko. Easy as pie but you have to buy their elements. I don't like the Scamsoil rig for several reasons.

Im still having trouble understanding how this filter works which is why i haven't purchased one yet. Their description doesn't seem to make much sense, but if im understanding correctly, the only time the filter actually does any fine filtering (1 micron) is when oil pressure to the filter is excessively high (85-90psi) and if lower than that, it does 8-10 micron filtering which isn't that much better than a standard filter. In that case, on a 7m oiling system the only time it would go into bypass mode(fine filtering) would be on a cold start with the revs up, otherwise during normal driving its just doing regular filtering. Am i right? If so it doesn't seem to be anywhere close to as good as a standard bypass filter.

I think it says it will bypass the fine filter when there is pressure build up. When it does that, it goes through the 8-10 micron filter.

When flow is least restrictive the absolute particle rating efficiency is less than a micron. Upon relief actuation the secondary efficiency is still between 8-10 microns

They do a poor job explaining it. Some flow is always diverted through the bypass element while the rest goes through the screen. Should the element reach capacity all flow will be through the screen. How it works will become apparent if you handle one.

The 8-10 micron rating refers to the screen. However they're stretching the truth on that and then some because there's no way it's that fine. Not that it matters, just saying.

I'll say one thing for the Trasko: it shines as a tranny filter. It's what I use them for.
