So if you don't already know, a terrible thing happened yesterday in which a freak engine bay fire occured. Car is totaled but has many salvagable parts.

see here: http://www.supramania.com/forums/showthread.php?t=69811

What i was thinking was getting a very nice rolling chassis and using it as a new shell using my performance parts and engine.

The issue that crossed my mind last night was....do you think the block/head would be warped and shot to shit after the fire???

Do you need more pics to really be able to tell?

Edit: check cam seals, it was not hot enough to damage them at all. They remain "rubber-like" and not chared or dried rotted/melted

That just bites, sorry man, I going to knock on some wood now.

It all depends on how hot the block and head got, You may try a hardness test to determine extent of damage, Iron will tend to get tougher but more brittle, Aluminum will deform so you will want to check for correct dimensionality.

but really I would not trust those parts anymore. just my 2 cents.

^^well, i just makes me wonder b/c im pretty sure (not positive) that the aeromotive FPR is aluminum. It was in the worst of the flames as you can see and actually is in perfect condition (minus any seals that may have been on the inside) so this makes me wonder how the head handled....

Edit: cam seals appear to be nearly perfect if that could be a hint as to how hot or not it got.

It is true that the head is exposed to high temperatures, like the exhaust gas , so the fire may not have damaged it at all. But I have seen fires hot enough to slag blocks into nice puddles of used to be cool engine. So you will just have to dissemble and check tolerances.

I wouldn't know, but IJ. would, he's tested at least 5 heads and knows what to look for, I know the one on my car right now is soft because: 1.) It's had at least two BHGs from the previous owners, and 2.) The exhaust threads have stripped out, most likely due to the metal softning up.
