Question about burping the coolant system.

I will be flushing and filling the coolant system later this week. Joy. My question is, when you jack the front end up as high as you can go will the oil pick-up become uncovered? I run seven quarts, so hopefully I will be safe. One reason why I never park on a hill.

Get yourself one of these:

Makes life so much easier.
They are made just for purging radiators.
You over-fill so that you have standing coolant in the funnel.
And as air pockets come up, they are instantly replaced with coolant.
When all the air is gone, you insert the plug
(the long skinny thing in the picture)
and remove the funnel (and all the extra coolant).

No Mess,
No spilling,
And no air in the system.

What also helps on the 7M is an old trick I have used for years.
I drill a small hole in all my thermostats
right at the very top, next to the seal.
This allows air to pass, even if the engine is not up to temp.
Some thermostats come with a little check valve built in,
but it is seldom right at the edge of the seal.
Some don't even have this.
I use a 3/16" hole.
It is not large enough to affect the function of the thermostat,
but passes air extremely fast.

if I have no toosl to use or anything like that, whats other ways to burp the system, I usually let the car sit running, and wiat for for the bubbles to come up, takes to long and makes a mess though.

Great! I was having a big case of the "what ifs" scratching at my mind.

I had all the symptoms of a bhg with my 7M, but when we tore it down, it didn't look blown. It had a HKS mhg and ARP studs, but I've been told that if you don't do the re-torque (5 heat cycles) you can blow the mhg too. Everyone that looked at my motor, said they think there was a small leak somewhere that kept re-introducing air into the system, and giving the appearance of a bhg. All the normal things went along with it. Waterfall sound behind dash, overflow bottle filling up, and car running hotter than normal. I 'burped' it several times, to no avail.:icon_mad: I finally just gave up on it,:aigo: and went 1JZ.
