You get screwed buying these systems first. Early model die young and features improve with later models. I always wait.

I had a ps1 and ps2 since luanch day with NO problems. I sold one of the ps2's and got a slim one and THEn i ran into problems.
My first-released-waited-in-line PS2 is fine. Just gotta clean off the eye from time to time. That only started about a year ago, though.. so that was fine with me.
Same here, got My PS2 a few weeks after it came out, Haven't done a damn thing of maintenance to it, and it runs like a champ. Barely use it anymore though.
My cousins older PS2 wont read the new King of Fighters so he had to borrow my slim PS2 which it worked fine on. His system still reads everything else though.
