As far as i know the one in my car is a factory OEM unit. The motor is very noisy compared to other power antennas i have heard. The nylon cable for the mast also did not have any teeth in it, it was just a solid square shaped nylon wound up. I took it apart so long ago i cannot remember exactly what it was that pushed it up and out.

I leave mine down (disconnected it years ago) and use the diversity one instead. Works fine in urban areas. CDs or MP3 when in the boonies...

Dead serious, it's an extremely common part, as all aftermarket units I've ever seen use the large plug, and one of your crazy domestic manufacturers uses the small one, so about every third stereo install in the USA requires one.

Any stereo shop that doesn't have one, or doesn't know what they are, just wait for the liquidation sale 'cause they won't be in business for long.

Sorry Zum, missed this. What the guys said. Keep in mind when I said it works well in urban areas I meant an open urban environment, not concrete canyons. Multipath can be a bear in those places and that's what the diversity system was designed to eliminate. The same holds true to some extent in mountainous terrain. Depends on lots of variables though...

like you said, cd's and mp3's in the boonies. ;)

(if i was feeling the need to, could i get a Motorola Y-Plug and install a inline power switch for the antenna signal from the radio?)

Yep, GM mini-plug adapter.

Hell, Wal-Mart usually has it...

Thanks Poodles!

I never took a good look at the plug, i'm kinda familiar with the plug you're talking about. I work at a radioshack. (I've haven't pulled a radio in a while so i didn't know it was that one.)

Well said I'd show instale. This what I got. ( still a little chilly -13c)
Due to the temp. I only removed access panel. Would have to remove
trim parts to secure bracket on bottom. Looks like one of the body panel
bolts will work for this. It will be spring before I do a complete instale. Just
wanted to see how it would look through the fender. Will see how it fits on a
three piece, as I think OP was wanting to see. And that is duct tape residue
around grommet.:icon_bigg muzy

I see you are quite astute. Keep us posted, don't have a clue of any auto parts store's that would carry something like that.:3d_frown: muzy

Ok. I went to Walmart and they had it. It was in the 'Car Audio' section; but, it wasn't by itself. You have to buy a kit to get it. The kit was $6.80 if I remember right.

So, everyone off to Walmart then??? :D
