I have already ported my intake manifold, but I don't think my workmanship was very good because I was rushing and it was my first time. so last weekend I decided to go to the junk yard to get anothor manifold and try it again. I thought I would share my progress if anyone wants to follow along. I have been working on the "Y" pipe for about 3 days now and it is turning out really well.

Here are some pictures of the work so far.

Tell me what you guys think. I think it is a good mod because it is FREE!! If you have any information, advice or feedback let me know!!

Here is a picture of the basic tools I have been using. It is just a 90 degree die grinder, carbide bit and a 80 grit sand paper roll. I think a straight die grinder would work better so I order one from the Snap-on truck today and I also have a longer carbide bit coming too!!

Wow man that looks good!! I thought about opening the "Y" pipe up to the same size as the throttle body gasket but the throttle body is already the size of the gasket so I didn't think there would be any benefit. Also after you opened everything up with the carbide bit what did you use to smooth it out with?

Right now im smoothing it out by hand with a 200, then 500, and if need be, and 800!

Its very very smooth. VERY smooth.

Again wow man!! Sanding it by hand! Thumbs up! I am going to try the 80 grit sanding roll first and see how it turns out. One cool thing I did learn from one of the old guys at the shop is if you are using a carbide bit on something like these you should coat the bit in wax to keep it from picking metal shavings. It really works!!

I haven't had my first set on for very long so I am not sure if it will tarnish yet. I thought about spraying the out side with a clear coat to make it easier to clean though. If you are thinking about doing yours soon here some links with some good information!

If anybody wants to take this to the next level. Adapt a N/A 2J intake to fit. The design is the exact same as a 7M just a lot bigger. I've mentioned this before:icon_bigg

Wouldn't this require porting the head to match the ports on the mani? I plan to do this yet I'm confused about making the diameter of the induction ports larger in comparison to the ports on the head. I need this cleared up because I don't know how to go about this at the moment:1zhelp: . Then again...I'm not sure if I said this right...jeeze I'm a nub...

What do you have to do to adapt it? Will you still use the 7m throttle body? Will the ACIS still work the same? This would be sweeeet!!!

What kind of gains have you seen w/ those ported? Or have you not put them back on?

I haven't put this set on yet. I recently did anothor set but I did not remove nearly as much material as this time. Hopefully I will have them done in the next week and I will let you know how it turns out!!

If money is growing on trees, you can always pick up a manifold on and Y pipe on ebay, and ship it to extrude hone. They are expensive, but it is very effective.
