platinum, friend or foe?

my "new 2 me" 91 supra started a random miss for no apparent reason. the car is stock except for a KandN intake and a ACT clutch.i changed my plugs, they were worn but not horribly. the best plugs that they had at the local part house was bosh double planinum. today i was surfing the net and i stumbled upon something that said that platinum plugs should not be used with NOS or boost. has anyone ever heard of this? i would hate 4 a $2 pluge ruin ma motor.

Yea, the Bosch are terrible, get those out ASAP.

I would go with stock Denso's or NGK's...some will say Autolite Coppers are a good plug too, but I have no experience with those, so I won't comment.

Decent but a BCPR6E from NGK will last twice as long adn give a slight performance edge.

Anyone that tries to sell you a Bosch plug for a Toyota is making a commision on the sale. They will not perform well in any Japanese vehicle. Bosch plugs work well for VW, Mercedes, Volvo and catfishing. Not much else.

The Autolite 3923 plugs are about 1/8" shorter than stock...on *some* brands of plug wires, you will get a slight idle miss due to arcing. Should be fine on stock wires. IMO NGK's are a better bet...BCPR6ES or BCPR7ES for one step cooler.

iridiums can act like glow plugs on high boost/NO2 apps...

platinums are OEM, coppers work great, but they don't last as long as platinums...

I used bosch +4's in my old toyota truck, loved em as they lasted damn near forever (YEARS HERE)

multi-electrode plugs don't work well in our cars though, as you can't set the gap, and our cars are VERY sensative to the plug gap!

I had asked an autozone rep one time if he had some NGK BCPR7ES, he said he didn't recomend, "N-G-Junk" plugs and to try Bosch, I smirked and laughed at him as soon as he said it, then I turned around, walked out, and took my business somewheres else. I've always disliked the bitch ever since then because he obviously doesn't know WTF is better for a supra since he would most likely think the car was a Probe. :3d_frown:

Every other month Bosch sends out flyers that for XX amount of plugs sold, they will pay $XX.XX amount. IN the corporate world of Autozone, they will usually land in the corporate offices here in Memphis or on the managers desk at the store level. Not to mention all the money AZ spends on "training" that is nothing but a marketing blitz to push Bosch spark plugs.

The computers list all the fitments that are available. It is up to the consumer to be informed of his purchase.

The POINT (yes it is a point not a cylinder like in copper plugs) in Iridium spark plugs will NOT dispatte heat well. Meaning at elevated boosted levels. The chance of auto ignition is high.

These spark plugs are copper core. I supply these to all the top racers in the Summit Sport Compact Series. They run 50 lbs boost and around 1500 hp. If they can use this, you can no problem.
