I would think you would have a really tough time getting that engine into the body. Anything is possible though. However, I have seen one with a northstar v8 in it.

i like the idea of the ridiculously small mr2 handling that power. itd be like putting a 454 in a geo.

well the 4wd is waay to much of a hassle for that project. i would understand if you were going 3sgte but 2jz+4wd is way too much custom work. i would go 2jz+custom widebody+ huge ass tires personally.

basics: mr2 shell only. i could care less what the interior looked like as long as i had room to sit. and as long as i could figure a way to put a 2j in there, id be even happier.

Why not just build up the 4A-GZE? There are "rare" HKS twin-charger kits out there for it - you can find one if you are patient - and Blitz made a pulley to squeeze a little more outta the supercharger. The car is light - with some wide tires you could put down plenty to make you grin, and from what I hear, those little cars are QUICK when you plunk a little money into them.

sorry to be blunt but a 2J in an AW11 is a dumb idea. If you need to swap a motor in an AW11, better choices would be a 3SGTE or a 1MV or a 4AGZE(if you're NA) or a 20V motor... I wish I had an MR2 in my garage right now so I could measure to be for certain but my guess is the length of the 2J is probably longer than the distance between the rear suspension.

This doesn't work like a a 2J swap into a Corolla just because they came with a 4AGE like the MR2. AE86 already has a longitudinal mounted engine making it substantially easier, and feasible, to swap a big long engine into the car than an MR2.

AW11s are great because of their light weight. Why would you want to put a heavy ass 2J in there?

transverse mounted Inline 6?

Someone PLEASE correct me if I'm wrong, but such a thing does not exist.(for good reason)
Joe...i got ya here buddy....there is/was a transverse I-6

Volvo produced straight-6 engines used in the 960/S90 (RWD) series from 1992~1998. In the following model year, the same engine was further refined for transverse mounting and VVT in the front-wheel drive Volvo S80. A New 3.2-liter straight-6 was introduced for 2007 model years.

Suzuki Verona is another transverse I6.
Raise the self-supporting hood, and you'll be pleased to find that the hoary old four has been euthanized in favor of a brand-new inline six, co-developed with Porsche. The engine sits sideways, Volvo S80-style, and drives the front wheels through a four-speed automatic. To squeeze six pots into an opening where four usually line up, the engine derives its 2.5 liters of displacement from closely spaced, narrow 77.0mm bores pumping a long 89.2mm stroke, much like the Volvo 2.9-liter six does. But whereas Volvo tucks its Hydra-Matic transmission in back of the engine, the Verona's ZF-designed box sits in line with the motor.
