pc/comp help needed

so ive got this blinking icon in my taskbar. it's some kind of spyware advertisment icon that i can't get rid of, and every now and then it'll pop a message up saying "system alert, buy this kind of spyware protection and be protected." i've tried right-clicking, scanning the system and even system restore.

seriously, does anyone know a way to get rid of it?

I would Google the software or message and see how other people who had this happen to them solved it.

I ran into a similar situation a year or so ago. One of my computers got hit by something like that and that was in there deep. It required quite a bit of work to get it out of there.

ive been working with norton and the aol spyware stuff for a day or so now, and theyve cleaned up most of it but this icon is still blinking. on to google.

YEah that sounds similar to my situation. I know SafeMode was involved in my fix, which isn't any big deal, but is more work than one normally suspects.

by the way, earlier today i sent those latvians a smoking email saying how mad i was at their service, and i would tell my coworkers about their bad business practices
