I was just curious how many have painted their side molding pre 89/ and post 89. I would like to know what you used to prep, and how they turned out. Pics would be nice :D.

On the subject of molding i was wondering if anyone has attempted to replace the 89+ trim that comes with the 3 piece tails with the pre 89 trim from the center as well.

Thanks

I also painted mine. I didn't take anything off the car. Just masked all around sanded with 600 grit wet sand paper. Taking my time to watch the body paint but to get the whole surface of the trim piece. Pretty simple once I got going and the whole process took only 2 hours or so... Here are some pictures.

Sorry for the crappy cell phone pictures. I also blacked out the turn indicators on the front trim. Here is a link to a really good write up as well.

I originally simply painted mine red to match.

Then I smoothed out the originals by taking the sub-molding off the molding.

And now I currently like the acrylic with the back painted so that it never scratches and the sun "prisms" through them.

Not sure how well the pics will show this since it's sorta most effective if you see it in person.

I cut and bent the clear ones myself. Wasn't so bad to do and I'm really happy with the results.

(The fifth picture, the one with it in my hand shows the sun effect best for still images anyways.)

little to no prep, then I took them to a paint place and they shot them with single stage for like $40.. not too bad, but there are some minor imperfections (to be expected for that price IMO).
