hey guys, getting ready to modify this header.

would i be better getting this ground flat and running full beads around the runners on the opposite side of the flange?

I would grind them flat and then bevel the inside and fuse the runner and the flange together with tig if they're not already welded and run a nice bead on the outside. just my opinion

hm. was yours welded on the inside as well, george? i suppose these will be alright as long as i've got a good gasket and its torqued down, but i'd rather have a flat surface

Nope, it was not welded on the inside, the tubes were just ground flush with the flange.
But IJ is correct on you getting a better seal with the way it is now.

thanks guys, thats what i was hoping for :)

think i'm going to run 2.5" from the 3-2-1 connector and then sandblast/get it ceramic coated again.

Looks like it's just got a couple tack welds on each side of the tubes? You wouldn't finish welding the outside around the tubes?

i've been wondering about this too. the inside of the pipe/flange connection has a full bead, but the outsides are only tacked in two/three places each. normally it wouldn't bother me but it looks like there's a little blowby in one picture. after seeing that i was going to run full beads around the outside of each, but didn't know if that would warp the flange (guess i'll just have to take it slow). so still fighting with that idea.

I would love to see you finished what i wanted to do. Demand pictures when you're done!

my man, you're gonna see pics of the whole process (unless my welds are ugly :D)
