how hard is it to take the the stock oil pressure sender and put an autometer one in? can i go take it off from under the car or do i have to work up top? also what tools do i need? the oil sender is left of oil filter correct?

When I did my headgasket I replaced my oil pressure sending unit too. I used an 11/16 (I think) Crows foot tool. It is essentially like a socket except the crows foot looks like the open end of a wrench that has been cut off. I found it to be very handy.
As for accessing it, I accessed mine from the top. I would disconnect my top intercooler hose, and the intake and accordian hose. I believe that this pretty much cleared the way for accessing. You may need to unbolt your powersteering resevoir and move it out of the way temporarly.

its a pita to remove....i think i need the crows foot wrench or a stubby..i removed accordian, upper ic, and other hoses in the way...but i couldn't fit any wrench in there...i'll try to tackle it again this coming weekend

the autometer is not a drop in fit.
AUotmeter uses a 1/8 NPT while the port on the 7m-gte block is actually a 1/8 BSPT. THe difference. One thread per inch. Meaning that you WILL cross thread the autometer sender if you put it in wihout an adapter.

Confirmed and the taper angles are different so while it might screw in sealing is going to be another matter!figgie said:

figgie- i bought the adapter already....the problem is taking the damn thing off and then putting the new one in....
