I've narrowed down the nice drips coming from under my car to possibly the oil pan leaking. How hard is it to change out? I'm getting tired of dry sweeping the black spots everyday, some is okay but as many as this drips it's a pain. :nono:

There is no oil pan gasket. Just FIPG. You'll have to drop the pan out. I've heard of people doing it with the engine in the car, not sure how hard it is though.

You're best bet is pulling the engine. It's kind of hard to pull the oil pan and clean all the surfaces for the FIPG while it's in the car... possible, but very not fun.

Pulling the engine, I always hope to avoid it. So much easier on my truck when I changed it. But, after the EGR cooler fun with the engine in I might just pull it.

I hope you're planning on pulling the pan out so you can get both surfaces clean... that's not going to be easy with the oil pump in there.

Yeah it's a relatively easy job....

pull the hood, undo the engine mounts and start lifting. unbolting the oil pan and bolting it back up probably takes the longest. gotta clean both surfaces very well and use a decent RTV sealant, FIPG or whatever gasket maker, lol.

Also, REPLACE YOUR PAN DRAIN PLUG GASKET

I cannot stress that enough :)

I would definitely let the RTV/FIPG/whatever cure at least overnight before running the engine again

meh, changing you OPG and pulling the engine out completely is a lot different...

you dont have to mess with the tranny bolts or the wiring harness which are both PITA

^^I agree. Pull the motor out, you'll wish you had if you dont. I pulled mine out to change the t/o bearing. makes everything easier.

Hell I am doing this because my cork gasket sucks balls. I will do it while the engine is in the car, and will do it in 4 hours or less. I am doing mine on a lift.
I have taken the pan down and changed all berings while on a lift and the engine still in the car.;)
