New Radiator, Car Running Hot, no Heat.

I replaced my radiator this weekend with a brand new Koyo radiator. Simple procedure, took me about 20 minutes. My wife drove it to work this morning and she just called and said it ran hot, plus there was no heat in the car. What could I have screwed up? All there was to it was the top and bottom radiator hoses. How could I haved screw that up? It was a prefect fit and replacement. Could I have gotten a bad radiator? The fact there was no heat in the car sounds like there was no circulation? I don't understand this at all.

did u pull the thermostat for any reason and put back in backwards?

No, I did not pull the thermostat. Just removed the hoses from the old radiator, popped in the new one, and attached the hoses. That was it. And I did fill it up with coolant.

No, burping is when you lift the front of the car as high as possible with the car running and with the rad. cap off. This allows all the trapped air in the system a chance to rise and exit. Keep in mind you spill a good a amount of coolant.

To do it properly:

1)start the car and remove the cap
2)turn the heat on high
3)raise the front of the car as high as possible
4)let it "burp" until no more bubbles come out
5)refill the coolant as needed
6)repeat step 1-5 if needed.

Thanks, I understand now. I had a co-worker tell me roughly the same thing, I probably have a trapped air bubble. He said to remove one of the heater hoses for a few seconds and let the air out that way. I will try both if necessary. Thanks a lot for your help.

It should be mentioned that if the system is working correctly it will bleed out all the air by itself after a few heat cycles. I have never found a need to do the (frankly rediculous) "burping" procedure to any car that has a properly functioning cooling system.

After the 1st full warm up and cool down after a cooling system drain and refill, my car will suck in an entire overflow bottle sometimes, from blowing out the air, and sucking in only coolant.

Thanks for your input. Would it speed up the process if I removed the radiator cap, turned on the heater, and let the car run for a few minutes? Would this force the air out? If I don't get my wife some heat in that car, I will be sleeping on the couch, it was cold as crap this morning.

Will it bleed its self? Yes over a long period ..... but what happens to the air that is trapped in the heater core? Because of the way the piping runs the air pocket can be higher up. Air rises soooo with that said lift the front of the car up so that the highest point is the RAD cap so the air makes its way up and out ....... And also its alot faster like 20-30mins vs a few days
