UPDATE!!

sanding the clear coat takes forever. I'm not quite sure when I'll get the whole thing done but I was able to tackle the roof this weekend. teaser pic from my cell phone. more to come.

here are some pics of my paint job. painted it in a home garage with super cheap paint(like under $200 for the paint and clearcoat). so far I'm really pleased. the paint has not been color sanded yet so it still looks pretty dull. I pulled off the trim the window trim and painted it all black, though I haven't gotten half of it back on yet, lol. anyways enjoy.

Yes. Reserving judgment till it's been polished.

haha ya me too. its killing me I want to sand it but supposedly the paint isn't actually dry for like 30 days so you're not supposed to wash it. I assume that means you're not supposed to attack it with sand paper and warm soapy water either.

You can wash, sand, polish, buff, etc. all you want.
Just dont expose the fresh paint to any silicone based products.

So buff and post up some new pics. Cuz it looks like ass now.

hmm....you sure? it seem that the internet disagrees with you. not saying you're wrong I just honestly don't know. Anyways I'm leaving to go back to school tomorrow and I'm coming back to get my supra in two weeks, so I'll just get it nice and shiny then. thanks though.

hey im impressed. I (8/12 - 8/14) painted my bumper and targa rattle can white enamel and put some enamel clear over that. Gotta say I'm still not convinced the clear was worth putting over the top, kinda made it less shiny. Anyways, do you mind me asking what methods you used to do the old garage paint job?

Depending on the clear, you should be wetsanding/buffing within a couple hours to 2 days. Once the clear starts to harden, it takes way longer to buff and get out imperfections.

Yep, waiting too long makes the cut and buff MUCH harder.

oh...well nothing I can do about that now, like I said I'm leaving tomorrow. I'm sure it will still turn out good.

as for method I just sanded off alot of the old paint cuz it was crappy. it had been painted before so I tried to get down to the original paint. then wet sanded with 600 grit to get it all smooth. used acetone too clean it. hung some tarps in the garage to keep overspray off of everything(the paint still got everywhere), then sprayed like 4 coats of paint and 3 coats of clear with a HVLP gun. the biggest problem I ran into (besides my own inability to paint as good as a professional) was water, cuz we didn't have a water trap for the air hose.
