I have a 87 N/A and am looking at new exhaust. After looking on the internet and talking to local muffler shops I have decided that buying a muffler and a cat and then taking it to a shop to have the pipe fab'd will be the most economical for me. This is where my delema(SP?) starts, I love the the look of the twin tip muffler like stock but not rusted. I have found these http://www.2kracing.com/product_info.php/cPath/9_64_1379/products_id/2023?osCsid=a991aeb38402834caa088d1d0eefff84http://www.andysautosport.com/toyota/1986_1992_supra/performance/exhaust/mufflers/ysd/sona00061753.html something along those lines and of course a high flow cat. Any thoughts on ideal muffler size, other muffler choices? Will a high flow muffler and cat along with 2.5" mandral(SP?) tubing reduce too much back pressure? Will a high flow setup pass emissions? Any advice on setup, muffler/ cat combos and stuff like that? Thanks much.

Would a glass pack hurt performance? I personally don't care if I have the loudest Supra in the state but the cops might I guess. Any type Magnaflow you would recomend? Edit: What do you mean "under" the cat? Inbetween the cat and the muffler like I think?

I would go with a magnaflow also. As for type you can get one that looks like the one in the link you posted. You can find them cheaper through Suprarich Summit Import Performance in the vender section.
The glasspack won't hurt performance. It should allow the car to run quiet under idle & light accelaratrion then roar under 3/4-WOT.

Do you have a link? I went to Summit's website and can't find what you are talking about.

I have been comtemplating this aswell. What kind of diameter piping are you going for? (sorry for the thread jack here) I found a muffler that is 4 in in diameter at the end, w/ a 2.5 in inlet. Would that be too much flow for an n/a?

Seems like those mufflers are WAY overpriced, I paid $60 shipped for my OBX canister muffler on Ebay. I just had my exhaust done not too long ago on my 89 N/A with the muffler mentioned above, 2.5" piping all the way back to the cat, with a resonator, let me tell you, it sounds FANTASTIC. Probably the best sounding N/A I've ever heard, the resonator and the cat make a big difference, sounds really deep, and not raspy/loud.

Yes, between the cat and the muffler. I have this one welded into my 3" borla set-up. It uses a perferated tube like a motorcycle silencer (no louvers protruding into the exhaust stream). This length fits perfect w/p losing too much ground clearance. Add to that they are cheap. 6cyls w/o resonators (non-turbo) sound too shrill in my opinion. The whole point is to mellow the tone and drop the sound by a decible or two.

^ Either muffler looks good to me. Sorry to keep draging this on but my dad says to get a "Turbo"(meaning no packing) muffler and don't worry about the glasspack or premuffler muffler. Any opinions? Any place to find a "Turbo" muffler in the same style as the two Magnaflows I like?

When it comes to cats, the price you pay is in the material. a $50 cat may work for the first 6 months, but then will light off less and less, then you will fail smog. going from a stock cat to a aftermarket cat might net you 1.7896423 horsepower, but when you have to replace it every other year, that money would have been better spent elsewhere. (for shits and giggles, look up the cost on a new OE cat, they are way pricey - this is for any manufacture. the cost is in the material)

look at the epa laws for oem and aftermarket cats (random techs web page has a good break down of what the requirements are).

I had a 3" catco that I had used - worked great the first time around (smog). 2yrs later, failed HC at idle, bad. everything else was find, motor was running like a top. checked the temp on the cat, there was a 10deg difference front to rear (the output should be significantly hotter). Said f-ck-it, spent $260 for the random tech 3", passed smog w/ flying colors. my HC content was so low I could have qualified for an LEV.

the n/a is 2 1/4" stock right? look for an OE turbo cat (2 1/2) and call it a day. It will be cheaper and last longer than any aftermarket cat (random tech included)
