Not 100% sure on this but I believe most of the bolts on this engine are torque to yield bolts

Maybe that's your problem...

It was snug and then got loose so I took it back out to see what the deal was.

Its not a oil filter stud.

No you are right, I bad info, with the exception of the stock head bolts.
