Need Quick help tranny/starter bolt

Now I've pulled an r154 before. First please no one come in and say pull the engine/trans together, I didn't have a hoist handy and also I can pull the r154 in under an hour by itself. Problem: rounded starter/trans bolt (not the easy one the on at the top driver's side of bellhousing, next to ther 2 top bellhousing bolts. Anybody have any ideas for tricks for this bolt being messed up. It is the only bolt securing the tranny to anything.

My tranny is sold so I need to get it out, shit been out there in muddy conditions doing this and only took me 50 mins. to get here then spent 2.5 hours messing with this crap. There is just not enough room there for this kind of BS

how did you round it off? i suggest cutting it off or drilling so the bolt at least snaps off.

Or just use a dremel and cut off the bolt head or nut.

I don't know how it got rounded off, I used a 6 point socket and it was tight, lodged a wrench on the engine side(starter) nut and turn to break it, it was really tight and then it 'seemed to have broke loose but the socket had just turned around the bolt, I guess it was already rounded off. I cannot get a drill, a dremel or anything here. I can barely even touch my fingers to the nut side(starter side), and I do not have the room to do anything close up the bolt end, I have rear of the tranny hanging as low as it will go and 3 ft. extension behind the tranny to remove the top 3 bolts, other 2 went perfectly(as before) everything was rolling along nicely and the last step before it was out then this happened on the last bolt. If I can't get it, I guess there will be just one thing left to do and pull the engine. How much does the GTE weigh?

Awesome, I saw these on TV or somewhere before. I wonder if anywhere local supplies these. Anybody know off hand if advance auto carries this or similiar product?

Dude, put a wrench on the tranny side, slide extensions with the bolt extractor I linked to in from the front of the engine, below the alternator and above the AC compressor. Keep adding extensions until you can get a ratchet on in front of the alternator. If you have an air impact, pull the alternator to give yourself room and use the same method.

The bolt will either snap clean off or break loose and turn. Even if you have to drive to the store and buy the bolt extractor, it's still going to be faster than bolting the tranny back up and pulling the engine!

What Grim said. Not that it helps you now but if possible always take the most difficult to remove fastener out first. If you think about it you'll see there are several reasons behind doing it.

Excellent advice. Furthermore, if it has a drain plug AND a fill plug, start with the fill plug. That way you aren't left without a way to refill it after you empty it...

^ good advice, yea I thought I had already done this bolt/nut with the first starter bolt/nut, then I undid the 2 top bellhousing bolts and realized this starter bolt was still in. Thanks for all the advice. It's out
