need clutch info?........need car info

You'd get better help if you would describe your car and goals better. Are you stock? or 700HP? What do you plan to do in the future on this clutch.

I also have a XTD 6 puck clutch, its very nice. Make sure you get your flywheel turned before install and whatever you do don't get an F1 6 puck :nono:

Also use some brake parts cleaner and a papertowel on the flywheel to remove any oil on the surface before mating it. Make sure not to touch the flywheel or the disk with your oily hands

Right now I have a brand new stock set up. BUT.........my tranny is shot (no 3rd gear), so I am gonna upgrade when I swap trannys. My tracking number says my XTD Stage 3 and lightweight flywheel will be here Wednesday. I heard several people say that the stage 3 was pretty rough for street driving. JoelW uses a XTD stage 3 Pressure plate with the stock disc, and he loves it. I think I'm going to do that, and save the 6 puck for whenever I need another one.

If you're gonna be pushing 400+, you may want to consider something else. Maybe not! I think it said it holds 480HP.

I'm running the ACT HD pressure plate with street disc and have had zero problems.. Pretty much the same thought as you.. Use a street disc until I get close to the 500whp and then I just need to buy the 4 or 6 puck disk(same PP).

If your stock clutch or current setup is fine and your car is bone stock and you'd like to reach 400hp. I'd leave it for now and spend the money elsewhere. Do the basic bolts ons and a MBC or EBC amd see how you like those power levels. I was running a stock clutch with 12 PSI on stock rebuilt ct. Clutch held up fine.

Update on my XTD set up. I stated earlier that I was going to use the lightweight flywheel and other parts of the XTD (pressure plate and bearings), and use my stock disc. I got it installed on Saturday, and the flywheel was cut too small to fit my crank. I decided since I wasn't upgrading at the FW that I better get all I could out of my clutch. So, I used the complete clutch.

3 days and 150 miles later, and it feels great. Everything I read was that I would get chatter, but aside from a jolt or two on take off (I'll get the hang of it), it's OK. It feels much tighter than what I had. I just can't wait til it's broke in. 3 days with no boost is killing me!!!!!!

Here is a thread about Spec clutches:

I'm sure a search HAS to produce something. If it was evenly distributed, 50% of members on the forum would have manuals...plus your question HAS to have been asked before, somewhere, some time a go.

i think i might have asked that when I first got my supra......I thought changing out the clutch was the #1 priority. I learned pretty quickly though that you have to start with general maintenance, and then worry about upgrades. Just a thought. There is a very helpful post by Shaeff that tells you what to do and what not to do if you just bought a supra. But I guess if you have a bad clutch it's a different story.

What is your timeframe from stock to 400hp?

If it's more than a year, I'd throw in a stock clutch if your's needs replaced. Put the extra money into a savings account to earn interest. When you do NEED the clutch due ot making too much power, then go out and get one.

To me, there's no sense in putting in a clutch that'll handle big power, when there isn't big power to be held. You're just wasting clutch material and money. A clutch is a wear item and WILL wear out eventually.

I have the stage 3. And today, I'm learning to better control the chatter. It's is getting much smoother. I should get it figured out soon, and it will be as smooth as a stock clutch. Maybe the break in will smooth it out, or maybe it'll just take me a little more getting used to how to release it. But, I will get there. It's more me than the clutch.
