I've just came across a decent amount of money and was currently about to restore my 86.5 NA just to get some of the average horsepower back from my tired 170k 21 year old motor.
And then... I got a nice check in the mail which I wasn't expecting at all.
So now I am pondering buying a 1JZ-GTE front clip and doing a motor swap since I am laid off for two months in a couple of weeks.
This is still a questionable consideration if I want to spend a couple thousand on a full front clip and actually making something out of my MkIII rather than just keeping it NA. My car is in good shape as the suspension components and drivetrain are concerned as well as very minimal rusting and an excellent interior in which the only problem are ripped seats.
I am skeptical on buying a front clip as, they are from japanese car's which OEM parts aren't as easy to obtain as for the 7M and you never know what is advertised and what you get.
For all of the supramaniacs that have owned or do own a 1JZ and have had success and/or failure with buying a front clip I am wondering how much of a hassle vs reward this conversion is. I am also looking for a reputable place to contact in order of obtaining a front clip as the only place I've checked out is ebay(i have a huge lack of trust for ebay so this would be a terrible last resort) and driftmotion (where i've only seen engine/tranny combos).
As I said this is just an option for me, I love my supra and would love to make some power, and am just looking to weigh the risk vs funding vs ultimate reward.
