hey all, i'm on my way to the starter and have taken the throttle body, y-pipe and upper intake off of the car.

my problems lie with the lower intake, i have disconnected all vacuum lines and other stuff, but when i tried ot take it off i see part of the wiring harness has been run through the passages in the intake (between cylinders 4 and 5) and the fuel lines are running through also (between 2-3 and 4-5).

how can i get the intake off? where does the wiring harness end or plug into that i can disconnect, and do i just have to unbolt the fuel lines?

i felt the wires from the engine past the belllhousing and my hand got stuck. ill put the car up on jackstands tomorrow and get further.

is this the only way to get access to the starter?

edit: does anyone know the page numbers of the TSRM that gives the gasket, description and part number? i know ill need the TB gasket, y-pipe, and upper and lower intake gaskets, but the other gaskets that are shot are: the air cleaner gasket (i think, top left hand side of the upper intake), the cold start injector gasket, and the heater air gasket. anyone have the parts list?

What the???

Are you just trying to pull the starter off? If so, you don't need to take off anything else, just the starter. You'll need two people, but it's worth the beer to bribe someone to help.

Get yourself a couple feet of extensions for a ratchet, including some short ones. Put the right socket on the end of a long one, and feed it in from the front of the engine, under the alternator and above the air conditioning compressor. Add more extensions until you can put a ratchet on the end in front of the belts that run the ac compressor and alternator.

Get a friend to slide under the car, guide the socket onto the bolt, and put a wrench on the nut on the other side. He steadies the socket and holds the wrench while you provide the driving force on the ratchet.

I can pull a starter using this method in literally under a minute. Well, ok, maybe two minutes if I have to disconnect the wiring AND assemble the tools first.

son of a bitch. may i offer you a beer?

im telling myself this needed to be done because my intake manifold gaskets and valve cover gaskets were shot, but damn. it's that easy.

Actually, I don't do alcohol, but that's ok, next time we run into each other at a meet you can pick me up some OJ. :D

Of course, Virginia is about as far away from me as you can get without leaving the continent... ;)

ill pull the engine, tape a load of flat rate boxes to it and send it all to you for $8.99 shipping.

on the y-pipe, someone had stripped out one of the bracket bolts. i should be ok helicoiling that, right?

does anyone have a TSRM page number that i can find the CSI gasket #, oil filler/return hose #, and related intake manifold gaskets?
