So around noon today I got T-boned by a 2007 Ford Escape. He hit me in my front left wheel. The damage is as follows: broken axle, broken sway bar, shoved back/broken lower control arm, shreded tire, destroyed fender and door, smashed corner lense, bumper shoved over, battery broken free and colided with the hood causing a dent, shock tower support damaged. I'm sure there's more but the car is a write-off. I doubt I can fix it, but I might get lucky. I'll try and find another shell to swap everything over since the motor is still good (not sure about the trans since I couldn't get it to move once I put it in gear). The other driver is at fault for failure to yield since I was driving straight and had the right of way and he was stopped at a stop sign and proceded to turn left to go the direction I was traveling. His car (company car) sustained major front end damage but was driveable. His drivers door is wedged shut by the fender so he had to crawl out through the passenger door. We're both ok but I have a few complaints that are going to get checked out tomorrow by the VA hospital.

For anyone wondering, the fluid leaking from my Metro is transmission gear oil.

Warning, these photo's are graphic.

Here's an aerial photo of the accident scene. I was travelling East on Blackburn Road going straight. The road I was on does not have any stop signs for my direction of travel. The driver of the Ford was traveling on Railroad Avenue which intersects with the Blackburn Road. He had a stop sign while I had the right of way and had no reason to stop. The impact caused my Geo to rotate about 70-80 degrees to the left. The policeman that showed up said the driver of the Ford might get a ticket for failure to yield. And in case ya'll were wondering, yes he was driving a company vehicle. My tow bill is $132.25 which I had to pay with my credit card. Luckily I was only 2.5 miles from home.

I'm okish, but I'm hurting in a few places and am going to get checked out by the VA hospital in Seattle tomorrow morning. I was able to buy a 1991 Honda Civic sedan (4-cylinder auto) with the help of my landlord and some dealership financing and was back at work 4 1/2 hours after the accident.

Man am I in the wrong business, I only get $0.55 per mile if I use my car for anything company related... At least you seem to have a sense of humor about it. Sorry to hear though man, stupid fat cars are why we can't have nice things. :(

It's either get pissed off and be miserable or have a sense of humor and move on with my life. The Geo is parked out front of my house with the front end resting on jack stands. I'm waiting to hear back from the other drivers insurance company right now. Someone on my Geo forums said to ask them to buy me something that's in as good of condition as my Metro was as well as gets comparable mileage (I averaged 46 MPG). If I don't get atleast $2K for my Metro I will be pissed. I had to spend about $2400 to buy another car so I could get back to work and the I can guarantee the 92 Civic auto sedan I bought won't be getting 46 MPG. Mind you I drive for a living and drive about 33k miles a year so I'm losing a lot of money very quickly.

Dude, you have some shit luck. Don't buy lotto tickets anytime soon.

Its good you have a good attitude about it. You're totally right, you can't help anything by getting pissed off.

Good luck with everything.

I talked with the insurance company today (from now on I'll only be dealing with the insurance company that the Ford is under since their driver is at fault and I only have liability). I gave my statement to the claims person about what happened. I also spoke briefly of the damage done to my car (listed the main things broken) to their vehicle damage specialist. They'll be sending out someone in the next day or so to assess the damage. I also went to the VA hospital to get checked out. My hand was X-ray'd and they found no broken bones. The prognosis, I just have a sprained/contusioned right hand from the pinky back (only the far edge of my hand the width of my pinky and in line with it) as well as a sprained upper back muscle. I'll keep ya'll posted of what goes on. I will make sure I get fair compensation since I'm out a 46 MPG perfect condition car and had to buy another car.

This is a good point, no sense in being pissed about what happened that you can't change. Would be nice if you could find a stock-ish CRX to replace the Metro with... For what it's worth, I drove a 94 Cavalier like it was a rally car, daily, for about 5 years. Paid around 2k for it, drove the piss out of it for 40-50k, had been involved in 3 accidents (one my fault, the other two just bad timing/luck like yours here), but when a kid in a brand new Focus decided he couldn't decide whether to stay or go at the stop sign, he decided (somehow) that it was best to nearly t-bone my car. Would have seriously hurt my brother (those things were NOT very solidly built for side impacts) had I not taken evasive actions, but it still got tagged on the right rear fender. Car was able to drive home, I still drove it for about 3 weeks after that, but I ended up getting a $2200 check from his insurance because of the shape the car was in. Wasn't terribly upset to be honest, hopefully you have a similar (if not better) outcome. :)

Glad you're ok. That's a T-bone accident. You're going to the doctor for some injuries. You're car is totalled. This is affecting your income very quickly. The other vehicle is at fault, and it's a company vehicle. Why in the hell are you working with their insurance company??? Why haven't you seeked legal advice? They can speed up the process and get you compensated and back on the road quicker. I'd sure hate to see their insurance give you $700 for the car and call it a day. They're going to do what in the best interest for their own company and not you.

According to the VA emergency room doctor I just have a sprained back and hand muscle. I'm working with their insurance company because I only had liability only insurance and Progressive said they aren't going to do anything about the accident. Progressive told me that I'd only be dealing with the other company. Why would I seek legal advice? It's a cut and dry case of the other driver failing to yield and hitting me. The other insurance company is moving very quickly. I've already given my statement to them, spoken with a damage consultant, had my car inspected by their damage person to assess what all is damaged. If they try and give me only $700 I will fight them. I'm prepared for the fight and I will get fair compensation.
