My leg hurts ;)

Just got my car back from the 5-spd swap, thing is much more responsive of course, can't wait to get it tuned good and dyno'd .... but damn that 3200lb RPS pressure plate is freaking hard as hell.... I think my left leg is gonna be a lot more toned then my right one :icon_razz i definately can't wear sandals anymore in this thing.... my feet are too big i gotta get rid of the footrest just to step on the damn clutch all the way.

Shout out goes to Jawsgear for the 3.91 diff and 1-pc aluminum driveshaft.... noise is practically non-existant except when decelerating on the highway at very low throttle there's a barely noticeable high pitched noise... then again it sounds like a hurricane in my car since all the hatch panels are removed and there are 2 big holes in the wheel wells that need patching up, so under normal circumstances i don't think you would ever hear anything. all the vibratory noises i had that i think came from my old driveshaft are gone now. overall i'm very pleased with my entire drivetrain! Thanks again Jeff! Also thanks to the guys at GarageWorks for workin on my car and putting up with all my questions, little jobs, etc :)

is there anything that goes over the hole in the 5-spd or is it just the shift boot? cuz the way it is now i can touch the tranny and it makes the car so noisy since i hear the engine and transmission directly, i even get a breeze coming through there on highway speeds.... how do i quiet this up??? i don't suppose i can just stuff a bunch of foam in there or something since the tranny is right there and does get somewhat hot, right?

Lol, did you kill the car the first time you tried taking off with that stiff ass clutch?

If you haven't done so already, get a SS clutch line, cheap upgrade but worth it.

my car is idling at 1300-1500 rpm right now because the guy who tuned the maftpro for me tuned it when i had an auto, he wasn't there today and so i couldn't get it tuned for the 5spd... needless to say that makes it VERY hard for me to try and take off with this new clutch.... it either bogs down or peels out... there's nothing in between. hoepfully i can figure out how to turn down the rpms with the maftpro unit, i'm gonna hook it up to my laptop this weekend and play with it, i'll probably take it back next week for them to fine tune it some more. i did get a SS clutch line, yes :)

we put in a smaller boost spring too so i don't blow the thing up trying to learn how to drive this 5-spd ;)

there should be a big rubber boot between the transmission and the actual shift boot. I dont know how much noise it would reduce though

If he peels out all the time he would def be in for some new tires soon, not to mention an lsd.

Are you able to take off by letting off the clutch ever so slowly? Or is it one of those aftermarket clutches that are pretty much "on or off". Those kinds suck.

Before I bought my 3G i was looking at buying a 4 banger supercharged one all fixed up. The clutch on that car was soft as hell until you got almost to the bottom, then it got stiff real quick and would "click" in, or engage. When I drove that sum' bitch there was no "slipping the clutch". I was tempted to pull the tranny the see if the clutch disc was sprung or not.

Congrats On the 5 Speed, I have never driven a Supra that is a stick... Sometimes I pretend my auto is a stick. Its way faster, and more fun to drive when its a stick.........lol

There are 2 boots and a metal gasket-esque thing. I did the sogi mod to mine, and kept both boots and the metal thingy, put a tiny bit of sound deadener on the shaft and i've got only *slighty* more noise than before but no breeze on the highway.

i just put some sneakers on and drove it around a bit more.... definately need to remove that foot rest, it's tough pushing the clutch all the way to the floor, i guess i'll get used to it.

is the shifter supposed to be very stiff when everything is new and rebuilt? (new S3 short shifter, rebuilt tranny, new clutch, new pp, etc)... i have to really force the shifter in 1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc.... (compared to my honda) but they are all equally stiff so i guess that's means its normal?

well if you're comparing it to a honda...

my old prelude was the best shifting car ive ever fealt, my supra is like trying to wedge a stick between two bricks compared to it.

but there is still nothing wrong, just a heftier transmission.

It's the HPF Full Face Feramic... supposed to be streetable, not a 6-puck, I got it for that reason. You can slip it and it does move, but it doesn't seem to like it very much (makes a very light grinding noise) ... again i'm comparing to my honda so i guess it's just something that comes with a very stiff clutch setup.

looks like it's time to find a nice automatic daily driver :1zhelp: i work at home but i have to go to downtown LA twice a week or so for a couple hours, definately don't want to drive this thing in rush hour on LA freeways!

well i removed the foot rest and took a sledge hammer and banged the shit out of the footrest metal support to get it as far left and down as possible. and i mounted an aftermarket razo footrest in it's place that's smaller and now i have lots of room for the clutch :) i just gotta install the other 3 pedals for the complete set... i'll take pics when i'm done ;)

7MGTESUPRAMAN - to be honest i think i prefer the auto.... i may just end up switching back in a year or two but not with the A340E but a TH350/400 with overdrive. the problem is of course it costs a small fortune to do and is not a simple bolton. I think the O/D kit adds another $2-3k in parts alone.. it's supposed to double the gearing of the 3-spd auto or something like that. i know a guy that said he can build the whole thing, he justs needs the adapter. in the meantime who knows maybe i'll get used to the 5-spd and like it.

I started out driving a 5spd mazda b2200 and got a supra afew months after that and to me it just seems like I will have a better feel of the car with a 5spd.

maybe a stock 5spd? i've never driven a stock 5-spd supra so i wouldn't know.... I just went straight to heavy duty everything, so from my little 5spd honda to this there's a huge difference LOL, but i still enjoy driving it don't get me wrong, and i'm sure i'll get used to driving it... it will just take a bit of practice.

If you haven't done so already, you may want to put some good tranny fluid in there like Redline MT90 with some synchromesh.

BTW, the only hard part about driving a car with a racing stly clutch in it is the takeoff. After that, shifting gears with a great gripping clutch is sex!
