I know its long stay with me i need opinions

Ok so i have made many threads like this before as have many others in my shoes. I dont want a 1j vs 7m vs 2j thread I posted in the "general" section as to not get a bias opinion from being in an engine tech room. Here is my problem I have a 91 turbo targa 5spd all the goods. My 7m just blew its 4th rear main due to unknown mysterys of the earth (seriously crank is fine housing is fine no overpressure in the pcv system). So Since my internals were all stock and I am shooting for say 450-550 HP I decided to just pull it back out and put forged internals yada yada ....all the goods. Well the 1jz swap has run across my mind many times now and I wanted honest non bias opinions on what You would do. Spend money to build a 7m thats strong and reliable. Spend money on a 1jz swap and add my 7m go fast stuff to it.


If i go 1jz I am also wondering what all from my 7m will work here is what i have ( I have more but some stuff is chassis related or I know for sure its 7m only)

Maft pro (speed density)
turbonetics 62-1
spec clutch
profec e-01
BIC DDP
ssqv
greddy gauges

Now If 1jz is used I would get a Driftmotion ct26 mani and use the 62-1 what about maft pro that is no longer needed or what? (I am a jz noob) Could the bone stock jz bottom end take 500 all day everday with a tune etc..? How much money am i looking at here to do the 1j swap with power steering ac/heat using a clip?



I know some questions have been answered 1000's of times but I want to try to get all my questions resolved in one thread.

Well... from someone who is in a similar boat as you... I am rebuilding a BHG, but not really doing ANYTHING that ANYONE recommends, not machining either head nor block, using felpro gasket, yada yada yada, I know my disaster is down the road for my car and I have been debating what i am going to do so this is what I have come up with.

7MGTE would be nice as it is stock and parts are out there... I would also have a supra...

though the thought of a 1JZ has passed my mind as well as I have the man power to do it for no cost.

The 1JZ from my research, yes can handle 500 HP all day long... I may be wrong but it is a stronger motor.

I have simply been caught between this line...

1JZ = 2.5L TT, which everyone just goes single anyway...
7MGTE = 3.0L T...

I know this isn't american muscle, but to me "there is no replacement for displacement"

I will probably keep the 7M in my car when / if my motor does fuck up again, just because the cost to me is not worth the power ect... it is nice, yes I think it looks hella sexy, but I wan't to have a nice, simple, clean build, pushing 400 - 500 HP in the end... I am not the biggest engine swap fan, and I know the 1JZ was an option in japan, but in america, to me a car is classified by both its engine and its body, to do swaps in my eyes is awesome for some, but not my thing...

You have to do what you feel is best, both engines can handle rather large #'s. It seems if you want above the 500HP mark to go with a 1JZ, but it is your choice... all I can say is... whatever you do you will be happy, you however have to get your priorities straight of what it is you want to do.

People will mock me and call me a moron for my current build situation, but well, until they have my debt and my mentality (don't go half ass, either don't try at all, or give it all you got) they can't say anything, unless they are funding it, because in all reality, it does not matter what a single person here thinks, other then yourself...

Personally, I'd put a fully rebuilt 6M in my MKIII before I ever dropped in an unknown like a JDM. Do you plan on rebuilding the 1JZ if you go that route?
