My plan is to build a 7M this winter.
My questions are this;
-Is the 89+ block better to build than a pre-89, I believe the cylinder walls are thicker on the 89+.
-I know that oil squirters are the only difference between the GTE and GE blocks, besides the cylinder wall thickness^^
-Is it worth building a GE block, or are the Oil squirters on the GTE more worth it? I am planning to do water and/or meth injection, coat the pistons and shotpeen the rods so Would that "bypass" the oil squirters heat issue kind of..?
-In the stock 7M head, what is the maximum duration of cam possible to use with the stock valve train. I am leaning towards the Brian Crowers 272's, Is anyone Currently running these or similar cams?

All input is apprieciated

Thanks
Sam

You can forgo the oil squirters if you run a forged piston. It will tolerate the heat and mild detonation much better if it is forged. I would use the squirters though myself.

You are also going to want to post what are goals of motor. I am guessing turbo correct.

We are in the GTE section.

My goals are roughly 500 to the wheels, as for the turbo, I planning for the driftmotion t66, manifold, and a few other things that are included in the kit...

The internals Im looking at are forged, but I was kinda leaning towards the GTE block anyways, oil squirters are just an added security. I was just wondering because i've got a extra GE block just laying around.

Anyways, are the 89+ blocks cylinder walls thicker than pre-89 or not?
and would that really make a difference?

+ if there is anyone running Brian Crower Cams I would apprieciate if you would share your experiences, specifically the 272s.

i know the 89+block has extra ribs for reinforcement not sure if its thicker though i think IJ has a pic of both the blocks side by side. or something like that, also the GTE block has 2 knock sensors while GE block has one. Also i am almost positive you would have to upgrade valvetrain with the BC 272s. I will be using BC 264's with comp cams valvesprings. only 70bucks for the set, definately worth it even if staying stock cams.
