MKIV are cheaper to maintain then MKIII?

I've been searching around quite a bit since I've been purchasing a lot of new OEM parts for my build, and MKIV parts are quite cheaper (price wise) than MKIII parts!!!

Even the 2JZ block is cheaper than a MKIII. Remember?? :biglaugh: http://www.supramania.com/forums/showthread.php?t=33940

This is not because of production numbers. There were way more MKIIIs built than MKIVs. Then, what's the reason?

Because 2JZ parts are interchangeable with half of Toyota's fleet. 7M parts are pretty specific to 7M's.

Mabey because the MKIV parts are newer? The parts are a little easier to make? Surplus of MKIV parts? Most of the OE parts I got from Toyota had to be ordered from out of state.

I agree with that. Also, MKIV's are just alot nicer, better, and more sought after. People always keep their TTs' in tip top condition with OEM parts, and all the MK3's ive ever seen are always in a state of needing some kind of repair.

Generally speaking as far as maintenance parts, usually Toyota is pretty consistant across the board, as far as I've seen generally speaking usually MKIV and MKIII replacement parts are almost the same price.

Ya know, if I had bought a MKIV I would have saved money in the long run. Not to mention I'd actually have a car that was worth something when I wanted to sell it.

This is actually not true. Now that the "almighty" is an OLD car we are now seeing more and more MkIVs falling into the same states of shittiness that we've seen for years from the MkIIIs. Of course then there are those MkIVs that don't live long enough to fall into disrepair because they were removed from service too soon (wrecked).

MK4 parts are newer by 10 years, there still around. wait till 2017 and see how parts availability is for a MK4, itll be the same as a MK3 right now.

I don't think so. Prioce out a pair of brake rotors from the MKIV and the MKIII and get back to me.

word. I worked for autozone, I wouldnt buy a replacement bulb from those bastards. If you got the money for an mkiv, you can afford quality toyota parts. You gotta pay to play. Funny story, my close friend has an '85 turbo 300zx, he bought a rear caliper from autozone and has had to replace it 3 times(lifetime guarantee, the damn e-brake arm kept breaking off!). He went to nissan and he has never had a problem with it since. Factoring in the amount of time waisted on replacing the caliper and pads every other month cost him more in the long run than if he would have just sprung for the extra 40 bucks and got oem.

the castings are toyota, the piston is sometimes oem, sometimes not, the seals are aftermarket. The quality is no where near oem. Coming from first hand experience, autozone sells junk, what they sell is based on the lowest bidder, is that what you want on your car??? Also, if its not prepackaged(like a can of PB blaster), its junk, and even then, make a point of taking the oil filter out of the box to make sure its not only the right product in the right box and that the filter is not used or damaged(happend atleast once a day).

Auto Zone???? Not worth it. Labor will eat you up.

I'm not talking out of the air guys...most MKIV parts are cheaper then MKIII parts. Again, I don't know why, but that is the case.


SC - How come you don't have a nice picture in your sig that includes your MKIIIs???? I noticed you stated in your sig you have two MKIIIs...Just curious.

LOL, I wouldn't got there. I love MKIVs as well, if not more then MKIIIs. They each have their touch.

I really wish we had input from someone who worked at toyota or something. It would be interesting to see what's their reason.
