Hello guys. I was wondering if anyone knows for sure what is the maximum tire width I can fit on these rims. They are 17 inch mustang GT wheels. I am not sure if they are 17X8 or 17X9. They are very good wheels and are light weight. Currently they have 245-40-17 tires mounted. I would like to fit 275 40 17 Nitto drag radials tires.

you should always go by what the tire manufacturer recommends. id suggest going to tirerack, picking your desired tire and size and check out what width wheels they list.

My reading has indicated that wheel width as per specified tire mounting is determined by the bead to bead width, not outside to outside width. Thus, I'd say your rim is a 17x8, making a 245 the ideal tire to mount, or a 255 if you want to push it. A 255 will see little advantage because the sidewalls will bulge a bit, lifting the tread slightly out of contact with the ground. Since you pay a bit more for a 255, I'd recommend a 245.

My 2cents anyway.

thanks Guys, Tirerack recommend minimum 9 inches for 275 tires. I suppose I should upgrade my rims.

I 've been looking at some MK4 TT wheels and I know they fit the MK3 supra but I think these wheels look better. The only concern I have is the center cap size. I think they should since they have the same bolt pattern right but the offset is 25 and the center cap size is 2.5"?

I thought MK4 TT rims had a super wide off set of +50 or something to clear the big brakes?

those would be bad ass you could fit 305 35 17 on those bad boys .i am currently running 275 40 17 on 17x10's

Really? what is your rear wheel offset. I am just worried with those wheels it might stick out too much. I know the 17x9 s fit for sure. I dont mind rolling the fenders alittle bit. I also was planning to put 275 40 17 on those wheels.

I have Mustang Cobra R's on my car. They're the same size and offset as the ones you're talking about and I have a 275 on back with no issuses or rubbing. The rims fill up the wheel wells nicely and stick out as much as you can without rubbing or looking obnoxious.

Curious, what is your setup?

What is a super wide offset? I assume you mean how much the wheel moves outward to clear the brakes? In which case the TT MKIV wheels are NOT a "super wide offset" but a poor non aggressive offset.

Yeah, and those "bad boys" won't fit under the fenderwell.

Ask and you shall recieve Doward. Here's a few pics I could find. Remember, as far as fitment goes, these are on a stock suspension car that isn't lowered so no "nice 4x4" comments. I really do like how mustang wheels fit. They have offsets around the mid 20's usually, look good, are plentiful, and cheap. These ones are chrome Cobra R's. The blue car has some old pitted chrome 5-star pony rims. I don't have either of them on my car right now so I can't get any specific pics, just the ones I had already on my computer.

I know, I know. The thing is that Maroon car is probably a toaster by now. It went to the crusher last summer. I do think if you lowered the car more than an inch it would rub with those rims and 275's on the back.

Thanks for the pix Rob. I think the front 17x9 +24 fit fine but not sure with the rear 17x10.5 +20.
