Its not pushing it but if you fuck up and it has to be re bored, with 20 over you can go to 40 over, with 40 over you need a new block. Its the limit of boring.

Depends on the block/condition/core shift..

85mm has been done

Thats not what I ment at all. You can only bore a block so many times before you run out of material to open it up too. Going from std directly to .040 oversize is skipping two potential future rebuilds.
