I was tightening the bolts on the wheel after I drove it because it felt like the wheel was bouncing whilst driving. I was just tightening it right now and I thought it was the one that was loose so I kept tightening it till it was torqued and it kept spinning and spinning and now its broken.

1. Should it have even broken off even after driving it?

2. I had a feeling that I should have waited till it cooled down, but I just tightened it as soon as I stopped somewhere.

It's obviously the extreme torque of the matrix xr...

I recomend detuning the motor.

QFT.

And overtightening the lugs (especially while hot) can and will strip/break them...there is actually a car-specific torque specification for lug nuts/bolts...you don't just tighten them all until you can't tighten them anymore...

But I'm guessing that your lug broke/stripped because of being overtightened by an air-gun too many times.

um....I've never heard of the lug nut (or stud) being hot changing torque charichteristics

Either way. it's probibly your fault ;)
