In my standard trans I use redline MTL. For me it works very well, vehicle shifts very smooth and is quiet. Comes highly recomended. In the rear I use redline 75W90 gear lube. Also a good oil to use. You will get many suggestions and there are other good fluids too. Research and choose what you think is best for you're needs. Keep on the lookout for a dark blue 87, I take a cruise down you're way every now and then.

I use what Toyota recommended. GL-5 SAE 75w-90 gear oil for tranny and hypoid gear oil GL-5 80w-90 for LSD diff. It works for me.

Red Line 75W-90 for a "newer" or re-built LSD.
Ford 75W-90 w/ Ford Friction Modifier or Toyota 80W-90 for a high mileage LSD.

veedub, I am from the Reading/Sinky/Denver area. I sometimes cruise into you're area, slide down 272 and into longs park in Lancaster for a pit stop, Then head back home on 222N. There are not too many Supra's in the area that I am aware of. There are a couple of guys that post from the Lancaster/Phila area that do post. If you need anything or have questions, feel free to PM me or post, I will be glad to help you if I can. I drive my car alot more than I work on it. Thats the way it shoud be.

redline heavy shockproof in the 5spd
redline 75-90 in the diff

on a side note:

I had mobil 1 75-90 in the diff with lsd additive and it was giving me all kinds of problems. Making noise when turning and going slow and crap like that. Switched up to the redline and she's smooth as hell.

i've always heard redline was bad for the Diff. its too slick and causes the clutch pads to slip sometimes. Tissimo's rearend was doing this as well as a few others on the board.

Red Line is not bad, it's actually one of the best out there, it just might not be the best for a high mileage LSD...it can make a noisy LSD (due to worn friction plates) worse. That's why I suggested the Ford 75W-90 w/ modifier or Toyota 80W-90 LSD oil for those with a lot of miles on their differential.

I'm using Red Line in my differential...TRD 2 way LSD...it's tight, completely re-built. It's working great...a very small bit of clatter cold that goes away in the 1st 1/4 mile of driving.

Redline MT90 for the trans, and I've just ordered Amsoil Severe Gear 75w-90 for the freshly rebuilt diff. Just in case there is some noted chatter when I get it running, I also have a 4oz bottle of Amsoil's slip lock LSD additive so I can toss a little in at a time until it settles down. This will be the first run with the Amsoil, but I've only heard good things so far from other LSD users, and the initial quality and properties of the oil are up among the best. Like Jdub, I found the Redline made for a noisy drive pre rebuild, but the clutches were toast.

The Redline I've been using for nearly a decade and haven't found anything that keeps the transmission and syncros happier. Not that some others aren't as good, but why change what works well!

I had it and the trans rebuilt at the same time. All told it was a little more than 3k CDN, but my instructions were to replace everything that had even slight wear in both of them. The labour was steep too, but I knew that was coming before I got there. On the upside, there's almost nobody who knows the supra transmission and diff better, and in going through the large box of used parts, I was quite convinced he did as I asked in replacing everything that could have had any wear. I think only the gears and shafts were not replaced in the trans and the diff from what I counted up.
