Line Bore

Im about to send my block to the machine shop in the next few weeks and I was told that with the new arp main studs that I will be needing a line bore. Is this true, and if so what will be needed to be done because Im considering putting the block to together my self.....thanks!

I have run ARP's on several 7M builds, and never had to have it done.
Never had a main bearing problem either.
These are not cheesy chevys.
I think your machine shop is trying to run the bill up on you.

I will need a line bore on my next one, since it's getting billet main caps.

More chance of an I-6 "needing" an align bore than a SBC..... :nono:

OP: Have it checked and then if it's actually needed get it done..

What he said. Compare maintaining perfect alignment with 5 main saddles vs. 7 in a I6.

It's also not the machine shop trying to run the bill up, it's a warning from ARP saying that if you use their studs alignment should be checked and corrected if needed. Read the information included in your main stud box from ARP, it's right there.

BTW, the one I just got back from the machine shop checked out fine and needed no corrections.

As did all of mine.......
In fact, I have never seen a 7M that had any problem with the main bearing bores being out of wack.
