ok i understand that if you use a lex afm on the stock 440s it will cause your car to run lean correct if i rember. i have the warlbro in tank and a afpr. will i still run lean with these mods. i did some mods to the lex afm so i can adjust the open bottom half of the lex afm to make some adjustments. and yes i did this mod with a longer screw to block it off. will this still be bad to do with the mods i have just told you about. i also have other mods like intake and exaust too.

Running lean is a dangerous thing to do, and it's been well established that LEX/550's/Walbro/AFPR is a safe combo. Me, I'm waiting until I have the cash to do it all at once instead of risking my motor. You're pretty close now, so why not wait and buy the 550's?

You wouldn't run lean if the ONLY thing you changed was the AFM (normal "screw") as long as you reset the ECU.

If all else is well, you shouldn't run lean with your setup now as long as you're not running less then stock FP.

fuel psi is at 40. and it seems to be running rich. when i hit about 4 to 5 psi of boost i get a lot of spark knock all the way through the rpms. at wot it goes away?

Spark knock... preignition?

Like I said, if all else is well... clearly you have much bigger problems then just whether or not you should run a Lexus AFM.

Start by checking error codes.

Only thing I can think of without seeing it in person is just that you are hearing something else and calling it spark knock... in which case I'll let someone else spray random guesses at you until you fix it. :)

i know what spark knock is. and it pings like hell when i excel. just want to know if running rich will cause excesive pinging in the motor or is it the other way around.

Other way around. Although there may be another knock somehow way on the rich side of the scale, but it would look more like a diesel truck accelerating up a hill then a car.

Running rich will definitely not cause pinging, but running too low of an octane fuel will. And spark knock is caused by high combustion temps which could be fuel, timing, running lean, running no egr.

i don't think egr is your issue b/c i have been running my egr the same way for a year and have never once had spark knock. if you have the stock afm trhow it on, reset the ecu and see if the pinging goes away. i don't think the lex afm could make you run that lean either, how much boost and what octane are you running?

i run 13 psi of boost and 93 octane? it has me puzzled. when i put the stock afm on it will still do it just barley but to keep it from doing it at all i have to adjust the screw on the stock afm nearly all of the way in. i have a set of knock sensors that i will swap out tomorrow on the car to see if that will help. thanks for the help though guys keep it comming.

do you have cracks in your accordian hose or a vacuum leak? this could cause a lean condition like your speaking of, un metered air (air that does'nt go through the afm) is not seen by the ecu and therfore the correct amount of fuel is not added.
