Anyone done it? I'm thinking a set of inverted 1895 replacements, super white, would work well.... I'd like to see some night images of them, though!

Anyone done it? Comments?

Considering the best I've found off-the-shelf (without going to Stealership) is a 4.62 watt BA9s mini-bayonet (1893 Sylvania).

I know that you can get some bulbs that are just LED's with the screwcap/bayonet from a regular bulb. Halfords here do them in Brilliant White, Red and Orange for replacement use in rear lamps, there might exist smaller ones.

Maybe if I did this next time I forget to turn the light off my battery won't be dead next time I go out to start it.

You need to get away from regular LEDs and use Luxeons. They work better than incandescents in applications requiring high brightness. My other car has Luxeon based lighting, everything from tails to brakes.

You can buy Luxeons all the way up to 5 watts, which are capable of putting out 100 lumens. That's a lot of light. The downside is cost. For a regulated dome light using a 1 watt Luxeon see here: http://tinyurl.com/jhkod

For avoiding dead batteries I suggest installing a Priority Start: http://tinyurl.com/gs7w5

You can find them on ebay cheap. Saved my bacon on more than one occassion. The Battery Brain is a similair device and allows you to disconnect the battery as an anti-theft measure using remote control: : http://tinyurl.com/q86ky.

Either will prevent you from being standed if something in the car is left on or the car is left parked for long periods of time.

LED's for dome lights only look cool. they're not very functional. been there, done that, went back to incandescents for the domes.

Lol, no...I don't have a semiconductor fab in my garage. Luxeons are made by Lumileds Corp. You can by them several places. They're definitely not your father's LEDs. Used in the curent crop of high end flashlights. I expect to see them used in multiples as headlamps in a few years.

If it were me I'd just buy the already made dome lights from that website. No wait...if it were me I'd engineer something using raw Luxeons. I did it for my other car but it was a bit of work.
