Leatherseats.com opinion

I was on ebay and came across a buy it now from Leatherseats.com. They have mk3 leather front seats in light grey for $549.00 with free shipping. Looks like a good deal. The local shops want $750 just to patch mine up.

Opinions on leatherseats.com fit and quality?

Is a professional installation required?

I just got the ones in that i ordered from them, but have yet to install them. They look great. I ordered front and rear, perforated seating areas, grey stitching on the black leather and with everything shipped to my door it was 764.

I went with Leatherseats.com after the feedback i saw from searching the forums here.

ForcedTorque is going to attempt to help me install these and document it, if it is within our abilities...if not itll go to the upholstery shop.

It's really not that hard to install the finished seat covers provided they match the originals.

You will need a "hog tie" tool. Just be really meticulous and go slow. It's also a good idea to take pictures when you're taking the old covers off (don't try to put the new ones on top of the old seatcovers) and note where they are hogtied, and try to duplicate those locations when installing the new cover. A lot of guys use a heat gun to get rid of the wrinkles but you have to go real easy with it.

Good luck, I look forward to pics of the finished product.:icon_bigg

My set had a few wrinkles, but getting the leather super hot for a fair amount of time using a Tobi steamer smooths it out a bit. DONT use a heat gun. I tried that on a spare peice and it will damage it.

Note that you only get real leather where the seat touches your body, the rest is vinyl including the entire rear seats. It's around $300 extra for all leather.

The install is a pain in the ass and takes all day, if you spend the time to get the best fit. They sell the hog rings and tool if for your install. A good pair of tin snips is handy to cut all the old hog rings off. Your hands will be cooked by the end of the day!

I've done several sets of Classic Mustang seats, and had no trouble with them. But, as I have parted out several MKIII's, I have tried to figure out how to get the front seat uppers apart from the bottoms when I have a bad seat. I can't figure out how to get to the two screws/bolts on one side that are beneath the cover. Do you take the back off of the seat, and release the cover from the back side? For some reason, I haven't tried that. I usually end up cutting to get it apart. That won't work on an install. I believe me and Roundfinger can figure this set out pretty easy. With two of us, maybe it won't take all day.

i did mines, it took about 6 hours with 2 people rushing thru. after 5 hours of doing it you'll want to pay someone to do it for you. just take your time its gets messy with the glue spray thingy that comes with the installing tools kit.

overall it was a good learning experience. next time ill probably get it done quicker and easier.

Glue spray? I cant think of a single area that you need glue spray for.

Also, as recommended by my local shop that has been in business for over 30 years, good quality nylon zip ties can be used in place of hog rings. And yes DO NOT use a heat gun, but you can use a steamer

more like a glue web spray that came with the installation kit(hog rings, web glue, hog ring tool). you want the leather to sit tight/snuggy on the cushion.
you dont have to use it, it comes with the kit.
