I did a search on this already.

does anyone know the relationship to knock voltage and timing?

as in, one reads 0.5 V. How many degrees of retarding does that equal?

Thanks.

None, the ECU reads the frequency and amplitude. I can't say that I have hooked up a data logger and knocked on the block with a small hammer. That is one way to check.

But it will pull timing and run very rich. Read the A/C removal thread about his vibrating bracket.

well the thing is, i am logging data. i get a knock voltage reading during boost. But no check engine light.

the the max knock voltage was 1.9 V. Average was 0.52 V.

I was thinking, if the knock sensors are giving out a voltage then shouldn't the ecu do something about it? Or is there a max voltage before the ecu starts to retard timing?

The car runs fine when the voltage apears.

I think HZ outputs a voltage of some sorts. I've put a multi meter to a knock sensor and got voltages out of it...

basically i hit the side of the engine with a tool to see if it woudl register and it did...

If the ecu senses knock, the check engine light does not come on, it just pulls timing and runs rich. The light only comes on when it doesnt see any thing from the sensor(i.e open circuit , bad sensor or wires) over a certain rpm.

as for how much timing does it pull it veries i know the max vavle and that is about and if i remmber right that is about 10 dages aka 0 at full nock this is when the light comes on and sets that way i knwo 89 and 88 are diffetn as well i have the cales for the 88 ecu and it's 10 dagess

and in what voltage doe sit take out 5 well that be half

so max is 10 degrees. what's the voltage value for that? and 5 degrees is half of max so it should be half the max voltage right?

so the 88 and 89 are different, is the 88 different than the 87 (turbo)?

thanks
