i know that tapping noise is not the fuel injectors....it's coming out of the tail pipe...it's a kinda of tapping noise, but it's popping/splatting noise....sounds like fuel is igniting in my exhaust manifold or something...i dunno...

when you let off the gas at low rpm's does your exhaust start popping?

i think your timing might be off too cause my check engine light is off now that i pluged the connector in but my exhaust is still poping and i still got the tapping sound just not quite as loud.

Is it more of a rattle? Could be your catalytic converter is coming apart, and the guts are rattling around in your exhaust. Wouldn't be the first time I've seen that.

i keep seeing people refer to rod knock, injector clicking, and incorrect valve adjustment causing code 52. i'll repeat so that isnms doesn't shoot himself in the face for having to repeat himself 8 billion times.

code 52 has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with any type of knock. the code is set ONLY because there is an interruption in the circuit (read: wiring) from the knock sensor(s) to the ECU.

that can come in several forms-
1) bad knock sensor(s) (not usually the case, but many other older toyota models use the same ones as our cars, go to the boneyard and score one for ten bux!)

2) faulty wiring from the knock sensor to the ECU (most commonly the problem)

3) faulty ECU. (almost NEVER the problem)

in conclusion- CODE 52 IS AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM ONLY! IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH ANY MECHANICAL FAILURE, SUCH AS RODKNOCK, BADLY ADJUSTED VALVES, OR INJECTOR CLICKING!!!

Thanks shaeff!:]

Well the tapping noise i had is now gone until about 5500 6500 rpm and it's not loud:]...Plus i noticed what he said about the tapping noises not causing the code 52.....But the code 52, or the item failing, or wire or whatever, WAS causing it to make the tapping noise(Or make the Tapping NOISE SUPRA LOUD), at least on mine.:]

So there is no reason toTALK IN BIG LETTERS AND BE ANGRY "SOUNDING", TO ALL WHO DO NOT KNOW THE DREADED CAUSE FOR THE CODE 52!

:]

J/K Not trying to be a smart ass....Your knowledge is very helpful, Though the way you display it is harsh and crude....But i suppose it gets the point across:]

Quick question...why is the knock sensor there?...according to your explanation, it sounds like it is there to "break some balls"....because it was a pain in the butt to replace....:]]]

lol. That's funny.

I think everyone was awaiting responce.
So I get to replace my AFM.
600bucks at toyota.
175 at O'rielly's.

I went with the remand from O'rielly's.
600 Bucks is just too much cheddar cheese whizzy.

It'll be in tomorrow. The car should be able to roll tomorrow.
I hope That's the last of the things issues.

heh, i didn't mean to sound like a dick, but the information is out there. (which is how i learned about it, by reading on the 'net, mostly drjonez's posts here and there until i understood it)

the knock sensor is there to help save your motor in case of detonation. (running lean) the sensors will pick up the sound, and when the ECU receives signal, it will retard the timing, and enrich the fuel mixture in an effort to save the motor.

so it's not only there to be a PITA. ;)

Right on shaeff.

as isnms stated, no. code 52 is an electrical problem ONLY. i has nothing to do with any mechanical problems you have, including knock.
